Here on Waiheke Island, in New Zealand’s Hauraki Gulf, we’ve seen ‘em all. The trouble is, our quiet little island has more buried homing beacons, ancient crashed spacecraft emitting distress calls, abandoned spaceports built thousands of years ago and now overgrown and suchlike than anywhere apart from Brentford.

As a result, the residents here have grown adept over the years at foiling the invasion plans of pretty much any aggressive alien life form you might care to name. It’s not that difficult. The secret is that most aliens are easily distracted. Space takes a while to cross, and by the time the tricky little buggers arrive you can distract them with just about anything.
