Who?

Rogues & Vagabonds are a fierce tribe of warrior actors, singers and freedom fighters*. Though the name may be ancient, the current group was formed in 2005 following the sudden 6 week (Councilspeak for "9 month") closure of a certain local woodshed turned ‘Performance Space’.

The various actors etc, who had been working in dismal conditions attempting to stage a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, found themselves, after months of clambering over building materials, without a theatre. Being brave, resourceful and determined, we naturally went completely to pieces, wept, rent such garments as we had on, covered ourselves in sack cloth and ashes and all went and hid in our respective wardrobes for many months, vowing never to ‘Thesp’ again.

Yet the lure of the stage, the chance of a few cheap laughs and the prospect of some homebrew after the show grew too strong to resist. Before too long, the sound of Shakespeare began to be heard issuing from an Ostend garden. Then Rogues & Vagabonds burst forth onto the local theatre scene with our first production under our new name, Much Ado About Nothing. The show opened at the Rocky Bay Hall, then moved on to Onetangi Hall, the Surfdale reserve, the MORRA Hall and Fossil Bay Farm. The format of the Wandering Players worked perfectly and the show was a hit.

*We had a Mime Artist too, but we shot her.
