Norfolk Diary 2: The Last Waiheke Rehearsal

Friday 28 September 2007

Our final Waiheke rehearsal last night at Onetangi Hall. A few friends came by to watch. Luckily, it turned out to be one of those rehearsals that are not quite good enough to be the dreaded ‘Good Dress Rehearsal’ but not bad enough to be vexatious. One or two lines went astray but nothing too horrible.

The Cat Herder tried out the tiny bottle of stage blood that we’d picked up from First Scene. (Dark Night involves blood) The substance turns out to be a funny orange colour under normal light but is supposed to look convincing on stage. Why The Cat Herder felt the need to eat some we will never know, but she declared it delicious.

Onetangi Hall has very limited backstage space. I do hope the theatre on Norfolk is just a bit bigger. There is a quick costume change for the Lord of Misrule at one point and he needs quite a bit of space to do even simple things.

So, all in all a good evening’s work, and the beers and whisky afterwards went down well. What is it about Cask Strength Laphroaig that makes you want to drink all of it at once while singing very loudly? We don’t know at this stage, but research is continuing.
