Dear Sir/Madam,
As a Mayoral candidate and spokes-being for the Dalek community in Auckland I am writing to you to protest at your station’s broadcasting of the anti-Dalek TV programme ‘Dr Who’. In this long running show, Daleks are continually portrayed as cold blooded, despotic maniacs who murder people frequently. While it is true that I, and many of my fellow Daleks, have been known to wipe out the odd planet and exterminate its population in the course of our normal day to day business, this show is hardly a fair portrayal of our peaceful and humble race.
As immigrants and beings of a different cultural and ethnic background, Daleks face many challenges in their lives here. I myself am frequently referred to by racist slurs such as ‘Pepper-Pot’ ‘Plunger-Paw’ and ‘Special Effects Challenged’. My children, Amanda and Jeremy face taunts and racial slurs at school, especially during sporting activities when they are obliged to change into PE kit. My wife Jessica has also faced considerable prejudice, though since I became a member of the Business Round Table we have met many people more sympathetic to our values. Prejudice against our community is bad enough at the best of times, but during Dr Who seasons it can become unbearable. May I ask that your company do as TVNZ so nobly did, and ignore the many thousands of so called ‘Dr Who Fans’ who clamour for this unsavoury programme? Once I am elected Mayor of Auckland (as I doubtless shall be) I shall waste no time in FORCING you to amend your programming. Indeed, your company will be obliged to broadcast pro-Dalek programming on a 24/7 basis. But as a campaigning candidate I still have to ask politely at present. I hope that you will see the justness of our request. Please don’t forget to vote Dalek at the elections! Yours truly, Dalek Snowdon. Read Prime TV's response here |
