Dalek Snowdon’s newly launched mayoral campaign has already come under attack. Vicious graffiti attacks have defaced several of Snowdon’s downtown billboards, only a day after they were first put in place. On one billboard, crude red paint daubs have transformed the benign and kindly visage of the Waiheke candidate to a leering, big-breasted devil. “It’s quite upsetting” says campaign manager Dave Carrageenan, “not to mention anatomically improbable.” Even more upsetting is the frankly xenophobic sentiment expressed by the vandals.
Highly offensive: the vandalised billboard “We could have understood if it was just delinquent kids having a laugh, but there’s a blatantly racist component to this attack.”
A smeared slogan proclaims “Go back to Skaro, p**perpot.” “P**perpot” is a term of abuse once commonly applied to Daleks. While its etymology is unclear – it’s thought to derive from the old Gallifreyan “peppapottamaxarchandrom” meaning “those evil-tempered bastards with the sink plungers who we thought were here to look after the plumbing but who actually wanted to start a Time War, the buggers” – there is no doubt that it is considered to be deeply culturally offensive. “Mr Snowdon is shocked and appalled that it’s still apparently acceptable in this society to casually use the P word” said Mr Carrageenan. “We thought we’d left all that behind in the conservative, uptight 1960s.” Mr Snowdon was said to be too upset to comment. |
